Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Where do you get your quilts?
A. Our quilts are imported and provided to us by numerous suppliers. The quilts are made overseas in countries like India and China where labor costs are lower. Most of the quilts are designed, however, by American designers. The quilts are pieced together on a machine but are all hand-quilted (unless otherwise noted on the website...after all, the new machine-quilted matelasse look is extremely popular right now!) We have been in business since 1995 and have developed relationships with the best quilt suppliers world-wide. Because we are able to buy in great volume, we can provide you with the best possible product at the best price.
Q. What size quilt should I buy?
A. Choosing the correct size quilt can be tricky in today's atmosphere of ever-deepening mattresses! Pillow-tops, double pillow-tops, steps up to the bed...where will it end? At any rate, the following should be of help. We have listed the standard bed sizes so that you can calculate the drop (over-hang) that any particular quilt will give you:
Twin 39" wide x 75" long Full (also called double) 54" wide x 75" long Queen 60" wide x 80" long King 78" wide x 80" long California King 72" wide x 84" long
The size of each quilt should be listed on our website. A traditional king quilt is 100" wide by 90" long, so on a king bed that would be 100"-78"(the width of the bed)=22" or 1/2 to hang over each side= 11". So a traditional king quilt would have 11" over each side of a king bed and 10" at the end (90"-80"). You can see why many people are choosing to buy oversized quilts! On the other hand, a traditional king would fit a queen bed nicely (100"-60" = 40" so 20" hangs on each side). If you have a very thick-mattressed or tall king bed, you will love our Super King quilts. These average 115" wide x 105" long. Our premium Donna Sharps are usually in this size range; but fortunately, some of our lower-priced suppliers have also come out with quilts this size for under $100.00!!
Q. How do I care for my new quilt?
A. The best advice is to do like they did in Grandma's day and respect the workmanship that went into the quilt. Avoid sitting on, eating on, or generally mistreating your quilt and it will last you for ages. When you must clean the quilt, we recommend that you take it to a reputable cleaner in your area. Each quilt has a care label attached by the supplier which will give guidance; however, a professional cleaner can spot test the quilt to determine the best method to clean that particular quilt. They also have access to large front-load commercial machines which do not risk damaging the quilt with an agitator.

Q. Should I buy a cotton or polyester filled quilt?
A. This choice truly amounts to personal preference. Many people prefer the old-timey feel of a cotton-filled quilt. Of course we have some really heavy cotton-filled quilts and some that are a thinner summer-weight cotton. Generally cotton is warmer than poly. However, most finely-stitched American quilts are poly-filled (they prefer it because they can make tinier stitches.) So, I always tell people cotton vs. poly is a taste decision, not a quality decision.
Q. Can I have a quilt I saw on the site made in another color, style, etc?
A. No. In order to offer the prices we do, all of these quilts are produced in large quantity and may not be altered.
